Old Family Photos and the People in Them!

This is my grandparents on their wedding day more than 70 years ago, her father is on her right an Irishman named Michael Donnelly, the others in the photo are unknown.

Fast forward about 5 years and now they have added my aunty Gloria and uncle Brian and yes this is the front door to where they lived at the time.

These photos where recently unearthed by distant family members and are the only ones I know of, to me this really shows how far we have come, photos are no longer a luxury and our children and grandchildren will be able to see us in hundreds of different settings at our best and some at our not so best.
I am so happy to have found these photos as it helps to keep the memories alive, and this would make my grandmother very happy.
Here's to the Memories!

  3. Oh what a great memento for you! I just love old photographs and am fortunate to have a few on display in my house. Heck, when my aunt died, my cousin, knowing how I love family, gave me her mother's framed pictures of; our grandmother on her wedding day AND a picture of my dad, her mom and our aunt when they were kids in their Sunday best! These immediately went on display with my other pictures... I treasure them dearly.
Enjoy and be sure to pass along the hi'story' of the people to the next generation.
TY for posting and making me look at my photos once again.

  4. Old photos like this are such a lovely connection to the past. Look at the gloves in your grandfather's hands - how elegant they were for the wedding day!

  6. Yes, old photos are a gem...especially if you know who is in them! I have a few that I hate to throw away but have not a clue who they are! Yours are beautifully framed and you can write a little history on the back to identify them for your children. I posted a couple of posts back about having my great-great grandmother's portrait on a wall. I'm so proud of it and the frame alone is amazing. I hope one of my children will someday want it.
Neat post about Irish ancestry so close to St. Patrick's Day!!
